Dyeing with Japanese Indigo

Join us on Saturday August 25th to explore the magic of Japanese indigo!  Instructor Susan Kroll of Thistle Hill Farm in Sequim will bring freshly harvested indigo from her garden.  This indigo was grown from seed produced in near by Port Townsend (we will tell you how to obtain some for next years growing season).  We will process the fresh indigo leaves, prepare a dye bath, dye yarn using our Shetland yarn provided as part of the class (you can bring other items to dye too).  We will also have a yarrow dye bath to provide yellow, and an opportunity to over dye the indigo yarn. This is going to be fun!

The details:

DATE: Saturday August 25th

TIME: 9:30AM TO 3:30PM

LOCATION: Ananda Hills Farm (see map on contact page)

COST: $110 which includes 3 skeins of yarn

Due to the small number of slots available for the class, pre-registration is required by August 18th and a deposit of half the total amount sent in advance.  Please call Jennie at 360-302-0522 to register or for additional information.

Sorry to say this is not a child friendly event since we will be working with hot liquids and some chemicals (i.e. ammonia to change ph).

Hand-milled Soap with Marcy Stewart

Join us to learn about making beautiful, custom hand-milled soaps from kitchen and garden ingredients. Hand-milled soaps are a two-step process—a base soap is made, and once cured it is melted and scents, colors and additives are added. The soap can then be poured into molds and will cure as a long-lasting, luxurious product. In this class you’ll be learning both parts of the process. Cured base soap will be provided so that the second step can be practiced and a final product taken home. Please bring essential oils, dried flowers or any other ingredients you’d like to add to your soap. There will also be some materials available from the farm.
